JOB OVERVIEW

The Material Planner and Expeditor –   is responsible for planning and controlling all packing and raw material in line with the Master Production Schedule and ensures that such is available in terms of packing material by calling off and expediting packaging and raw material lines in line with the material requirement plan.

Materials Planning and Execution

 

  • Plans and controls all packing and raw material in line with the Master Production Schedule.
  • Ensures that the Master Production Schedule is achievable in terms of packing and raw material availability over a 12 months rolling horizon.
  • Analyzes discrepancies in item requirements and coverage, and takes appropriate corrective actions in terms of releasing planned order, expediting released orders, delaying released order or cancelling released orders.
  • Acts proactively with regards to change requests in the master production schedules should any issues arise terms of material supply.
  • Reduces core working capital to a minimum by means of efficient planning of packing and raw material.
  • Ensures there are no risks associated with the purchasing of promotional goods.
  • Seeks innovative ideas and opportunities to drive costs down and improve controls.
  • Monitors packaging and raw material for inactivity or obsolescence and recommends disposition.
  • Participates in analysis of cycle counting of material and follows up if system balances are not up-to-date.
  • Investigates and correct errors in inventory records.

Supplier Management

 

  • Monitors stocks of consignment material at suppliers and identifies possible risks.
  • Attends regular meetings with the suppliers, marketing, quality and R& D team.
  • Visits the suppliers on a regular basis.
  • Sets supplier KPI’s and measures monthly (OTIF).
  • Keeps record of all material specifications and ensures that suppliers are fully aware of them.
  • Participates in the negotiations with the suppliers.

Materials Management

 

 

  • Purchases printed material as per marketing requirements.
  • Ensures that copies of purchase orders for printed material are sent to suppliers on time.
  • Ensures all invoices for printed material state the correct Kellogg’s PO number.
  • Ensures that the Inventory Stores Controller / Receiving are fully informed on PO details in order for them to receipt packaging material.
  • Keeps open purchase orders for printed material current on the ERP system, which includes quantity, due dates, price changes, etc.
  • Keeps all information related to material planning & printed materials on the ERP system up-to-date.
  • Assists in maintaining the material budget.
  • Keep record of actual prices vs. Budget.
  • Handles changes in bills of material of items under supplier control.
  • Assists with other purchasing functions as and when required.

  • Ensures that GMP (Good manufacturing practices) encompassing food safety (HACCP) and sanitation standards are adhered to.
  • Complies with and ensures that all health and safety rules are met and acts pro-actively by addressing any safety concerns which may be harmful to self or other employees.

EDUCATION & RELEVANT YEARS JOB RELATED EXPERIENCE

Degree in Supply Chain coupled with 3-5 years’ experience in an FMCG environment.

  • Highly analytical individual – able to work with numbers and do material scenario planning.
  • Express potential through adaptability, applied learning, work standards and tenacity.

Sufficient / in depth,  knowledge of:

  • Kellogg’s quality and health and safety procedures.
  • Materials Replenishment principles
  • Operational policies and procedures.
  • SAP or similar ERP system.
  • Above average MS Excel skills.
  • Section 404 compliance.
