Title: Packaging Engineer
Join our Research and Development team as a Packaging Engineer supporting our iconic Pop Tarts, Rice Krispies Treats and Eggo brands! Lead and collaborate on complex programs from ideation through scale-up. As a technical expert, your in-depth knowledge of packaging materials, design principles and operations will be key to our success. This hybrid position is based in Battle Creek, MI but also open to individuals in the Chicago area. Estimated travel is 20-40% (will be closer to 40% for individuals located in the Chicago area).
Create new packaging and optimize existing packaging people will enjoy. Innovate with us as you develop and refine packaging materials, from idea generation through proof of concept to commercialization. You will assume the role of innovator, project leader, and technical problem solver. Team up with cross-functional partners to provide timely and cost-effective renovation to drive growth and bottom-line optimization.
A Taste of What You’ll Be Doing
- Value Creation – Improve margin, drive sustainability enablement and deliver business results. Use your innovative thinking skills to create, transform and execute packaging projects across existing products, with focus on bottom line growth. You will create a multi-year pipeline, leading in the discovery, evaluation and advancement of new packaging designs and technologies.
- Innovation/Creativity – Provide innovative, timely, and cost-effective improvements. This will include concepts, developments, and commercialization. Share technical insight and understanding with respect to new or existing packaging or processes.
- Technical Leadership - Use your technical acumen, leadership, and expertise within the field to assess, develop and commercialize different initiatives. Innovation, cost optimization, external partnerships, and process improvements will be key focus areas.
- What’s Trending? – An innovative mindset will serve you well in technical scouting, advancement, and evaluation of new packaging technologies in material/equipment research and development.
We’re Looking for Someone With
- Bachelor of Science in Packaging, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or another related technical field.
- Technical depth and breadth within the packaging discipline.
- Clear understanding of packaging design, materials, shelf life, equipment, and systems.
- Experienced in problem-solving, leading, and managing projects, project teams and pipeline growth.
- Proven track record of leadership, business acumen, communication skills, and diplomacy.
