Function & Business Unit: AMEA R&D RTEC
Location: Tokyo, Japan
Reports to: Japan R&D Director
- Intro to the job
- Responsible for the product development of Ready to eat cereal for Japan market and AMEA region. Design winning food meeting consumer and business needs to drive business growth and profit margin. Collaborate with R&D and cross functional team in and outside Japan daily basis as one team.
- Location of the role
- Tokyo office. Work from home program is in place with at most twice a week. Approximately once a month travel to Takasaki plant.
- Brief overview of the team
- Two other Product Development members. One Package Development. One Regulatory. One Nutrition. Japan R&D is in total of 7 people including this position and Director.
- Anything extra that makes the role exciting
- Lead food development for consumers in Japan and Asian markets leveraging global resources internally and externally. Closely collaborate with Marketing, Sales and Supply Chain team to drive Front End Innovation and complete through the production scale up and market launch.

- Develop product development career being responsible for Japan market role and/or AMEA regional role. Possible to expand expertise into the area of Nutrition, Regulatory and Package.

A Taste of What You’ll Be Doing
- Granola Food Development – Lead the food development of granola for Japan and Asian markets. Daily communication with cross functional team in Japan, Korea, Singapore and Europe to develop concept and food. Collaborate with ingredient suppliers in and outside Japan. Consult with external experts such as culinary chef, regulatory consultant, science experts in academy.
- Kids and Other Breakfast Cereal Food Development – Lead the food development for Japan market.
- Value Innovation – Lead the cost reduction project by improving food formulation, qualifying alternative material, reduce production loss etc.
We’re Looking for Someone With
- Minimum 5 years’ experience of consumer product development in FMCG industry.
- Minimum 1 year experience of collaboration with a team of members outside Japan using English daily.
- Experience of leading product development project collaborating with Marketing and Supply Chain.
- Experience of the laboratory scale prototyping work and the scale up validation in manufacturing site.
- Bachelor or Master of Science.
- Capability of developing technical model hypothesis, developing research plan for validation, conducting test and statistical analysis of the result.
- Project management skill including schedule development and stage gate proposal development.
