Title: Senior Packaging Engineer

Manage and lead the packaging equipment projects and specification development and provide technical support across multiple mediums to large sized food packaging projects and programs

Provide deep and broad technical support and packaging equipment technology expertise to projects and plants, specializing on multiple packing technologies. Manages technical scope on up to 2 large complex projects, or up to 3 medium projects. Supports technical scope for up to 3 projects. Provides technical support across all key packaging equipment technologies

A Taste of What You’ll Be Doing

  • Write and compile material to include in the Front-End Loading (FEL) package / design basis for all assigned innovation, capacity, productivity and infrastructure projects. Use this to develop consensus agreement / alignment amongst project team and operations for the technical scope of capital projects
  • Specify, source and validate new packaging equipment and technologies to be installed as part of innovation, capacity, productivity, and infrastructure projects
  • Develop conceptual design drawings, initial capital estimates/schedules and technical risk assessments for the packaging equipment scope on all assigned innovation, capacity, productivity and infrastructure projects
  • Lead on site project execution end to end
  • Provide technical support to the project execution teams as they execute the packaging equipment scope on all assigned innovation, capacity, productivity and infrastructure projects
  • Proactively seek opportunities to maximize efficient use of current corporate assets for the manufacture of new and existing food products. This includes recommendations for new product sources.
  • Ensure that all packaging equipment delivered to the Kellogg network meets the committed design and performance specifications / targets
  • Ensure that all packaging equipment delivered to the Kellogg network meets the necessary Kellogg requirements in terms of food safety and people safety
  • Provide technical support / troubleshooting expertise to the Kellogg network of plants around the globe to resolve operational issues
  • Ensure that new equipment developments have the appropriate development plans, risk assessments and test plans to validate designs and ensure success in terms of making the right decision on whether to implement
  • Use knowledge of the network and the current equipment performance and constraints to work with operations and generate new project ideas that can deliver innovation or savings to the business
  • Apply people safety and food safety standards and principles
  • Review Arck Plans, can interface with R&D to give some reality in their development
  • Overlooking the factories project related to packing product/improvement equipments
  • Choose right equipment that matches efficiencies etc against plans
  • Be a contributor and member representing AMEA at Kellanova Global Technology Ownership (GTO) teams/groups e.g. Cartoner GTO, Scales & Bagger GTO, etc.
  • Own and guide the automation initiatives (regardless of sector i.e. processing, packing, FUS, etc.) within the AMEA region and bridge the AMEA team to Global Automation Steering Committee and Automation GTO.
  • Be part of the Technical Centre Element 4 team as Packaging Subject Matter Expert (SME) to guide and assist in the implementation, learning and sharing of packaging related technologies.

We’re Looking for Someone With

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or related field) and 5 years related work experience. Alternatively, a minimum of 10 years’ experience in a technical role related to packaging equipment / manufacturing
  • Significant experience of packaging capital projects or in the food industry
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and operate in a collaborative project environment
  • Understanding of equipment control functions and equipment capability for multiple unit operations
  • Experience with designing full packaging lines
  • Experience with baggers, cartoners, flow wrappers, scales & checkweighers, case packers and unit load formers
  • Applied knowledge of machine safety requirements (including machine safety circuit design and classification) and of good manufacturing practices and hygienic equipment design
  • Applied knowledge of equipment PC&IS / controls systems
  • Experience working with operations and Supply Chain
  • Demonstrated cost consciousness, communication skills, and diplomacy that will promote good relations with all facets of worldwide management and other technical disciplines in the effective execution of projects to accomplish objectives and demanding schedules

 

Preferred:

  • Experience as a project manager focus on packing equipment design & installation.
  • Machine development experience (machine design etc)
  • Demonstrated capability to manage complex and challenging projects in adverse conditions
